Students Educating about Podcasts

I really learned a lot from the students about podcasting. They are extremely knowledgeable and I realized that as their podcast lasted close to an hour. Them continued to discuss strategies, techniques and offer advice on how to have a really great podcast. In addition, they were able to answer questions about their podcast, which was really impressive. It was evident that they were speaking to adults. I learned that it is important to make sure that your podcast can encompass several topics. Also, I learned that the students felt that developing the material for podcasts is time consuming and takes about a week. This is very understandable. The students recognize that this is a medium of communication that allows for your voice to be heard because millions can listen to it all over the world. The students really like the podcast and say its easy to create a podcast.

You make really great points on your blog. It seems podcasts are playing and will play important roles in our classrooms. I guess right now we all have the same argument that creating one is time consuming, but in a couple of years from now, we won't have that complain at all because new and better technology will become more readily available.

I agree that students developing the podcasts gives them ownership of their learning. I don't think it takes a whole lot of time - maybe at teh beginning, but certainly not when it becomes a routine. One teacher I know said that recording only took a few minutes, but that the planning took a lot of time. That's the way we want it to be, because that's when the learning takes place.
Which podcast did you listen to? If you make a hyperlink to it, we could check it out.
